Former Greensboro College baseball player killed in Vermont crash

BARTON, Vt. ? A former Greensboro College baseball player died in a car crash after he lost control of the vehicle in Vermont.

Vermont State Police said the 1998 Mercedes Benz driven by 23-year-old Quinn Finnegan was headed east on Route 16 in Barton around 1 a.m. Thursday when it left the road, went over an embankment and struck several trees before overturning.

Police said Finnegan, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.?

A passenger, 27-year-old Kelsey Crelin of West Glover, Vt., suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.? Police said she was wearing a seatbelt.?

The crash is still under investigation.

Greensboro College spokesman Lex Alexander confirmed Finnegan played baseball at the school.?

The college?s head baseball coach, Matt Aker, said Finnegan played in 2010 and 2011.? He was an All-U.S.A. South 3rd-baseman in 2011.?

Finnegan?s death ?hits hard? with students and staff, as he was ?well-loved? by teammates, Aker said.?

?There was a spark to him?? He was selfless,? Aker said.?

Aker said he believes Finnegan had some relatives in Vermont.? His mother lives in the Fort Lauderdale area and he played baseball in high school in Plantation, Fla.?

Before transferring to Greensboro College in 2010, Finnegan spent his freshman and sophomore years playing baseball at Louisburg Community College.?
